Black Friday is traditionally the biggest shopping event of the year, and one well cemented into the retail sector’s calendar and forecasts. However, all things considered in 2020, many are wondering what will Black Friday be like this year?

Reports have suggested that this year, online sales will rise where offline sales will dip compared to the year before. Mikael Lindahl, Head of Growth at PriceRunner suggests, “This is mainly driven by a weaker economy, higher unemployment rates and social restrictions causing lower consumption overall, with a higher concentration of online spending during the Black Friday week.“

After a tough year for shopping centres and venues alike, Black Friday is still a great opportunity to recover some of their lost revenue by creating a fun experience for customers on this annual event. 

This year, to manage crowds, some retailers are releasing their Black Friday deals earlier or across the entire week to help with social distancing efforts, while still reaping the benefits of this event.
